Adoption Process Outline
This outline will help you understand what will take place in the course of your international adoption.
- Private consultations (either by phone or in person) to answer your specific questions.
- Fill out the God's Families adoption application and return to our office when you're ready to begin your adoption.
- Upon application approval, sign the adoption agreement and return to our office.
- Gather and submit the required information for your Homestudy, the USCIS, and your Dossier. File your USCIS I-600a application as soon as possible. You do not need a completed Homestudy to initially file. God's Families will assist you with finding a Homestudy agency and filing with the USCIS.
- Upon completion of your Homestudy, and later USCIS approval, you’ll either identify a child or wait for an invitation to travel to the country to meet a child. Our staff will begin arrangements for your adoption with the foreign government and agency and will guide you through all necessary requirements and procedures.
- Depending upon your program, and after your Dossier has received approval, you will travel to your child's country for the court hearing and adoption decree. You will then return home with your child after all US and foreign requirements have been met. God’s Families will assist you with all travel arrangements and visas. Our foreign staff will assist you with all arrangements in-country.
- When you arrive home, God’s Families will forward information to you concerning the post-adoption period. This information will include helping your child adjust, re-adoption, getting a social security card for your child, post-placement for your child according to your state laws, etc.
